Making a Choice Between Furnished and Unfurnished Apartments

When renting an apartment, there are few parameters like accessibility, price, and location that need introspection. In addition to these parameters furnishing is another really important factor that must be considered. It depends upon individual choice (or family choice) whether or not they need a furnished or an unfurnished apartment, but you must carefully analyze your needs before finalizing.

What’s the Difference?

In addition to light fixtures, kitchen and bathroom amenities a furnished apartment comprises of normal furniture as well. Not every room of the apartment will be well furnished, but an apartment with basics like a bed or a wardrobe, might be considered furnished. These apartments do not include any electrical or electronic equipment nor any decorative items, as these aren’t considered essential. In comparison, an unfurnished apartment doesn’t contain any furniture. There are only light fixtures and bathroom facilities, but the rest will be left for the tenant.

Advantages of Furnished Apartments

Renting an apartment with all the necessary furnishings takes away the burden of getting furniture, which is probably the biggest advantage. Minimum furniture that a tenant gets will be a bed, a closet, functional kitchen and bathroom facilities, and maybe a dining table. Such apartments are more suitable for college graduates or young adults who stay alone, as these require tenants to have very little furniture of their own.

Advantages of Unfurnished Apartments

An unfurnished apartment appeals to people who either have accumulated furniture or can afford to buy new ones. Such tenants can better manage the provided space, as they are not bound to keep the bed and other furniture provided with the apartment. Moreover, the prospect of renting an apartment without any furnishings appeals to tenants who prefer getting furniture items of their choice.

Disadvantages

Both types of apartments have their set of disadvantages. While having a furnished apartment means that the tenant does not have claim on all of the furniture in the apartment. And depending on the rental agreement, the tenant might be responsible for repairing or replacing damaged furniture. Though the tenant is the sole owner of the furniture items in the case of an unfurnished rental, but the key is to keep a check on one's spending. The temptation to buy all the perfect accessories needs to be taken care of, because it may derail your monthly budget.
A wise consideration of needs must be done and a proper budget must be prepared before signing any agreement. Also, evaluate the apartment and check what’s available to make the right decision.
